On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, our WinstonBros team attended the historic first physical event of the E-commerce Slovakia association.
It wasn’t just an ordinary seminar in a boardroom – the entire event took place right on a boat on the Danube. Darko and Patrik went on our behalf to soak up the atmosphere and find out where the e-commerce business is heading this year.

What happened on board?
The entire event was opened by Michal Král, chairman of the association, who evaluated the state of the market. After a milder period, Slovak e-commerce is regaining its breath – in 2024, it grew by 6% to a total turnover of €1.84 billion. E-commerce is now a strategic pillar of the Slovak economy because it can generate revenue from foreign customers and is exceptionally resilient to crises.
The topic of Artificial Intelligence also grabbed attention, as it is no longer just a futuristic vision but the reality of 2026. Viktor Zeman guided us through the world of agentic commerce, where customers no longer need to “click” through a website; instead, an AI agent (in interfaces like ChatGPT or Google AI Mode) handles the purchase for them.

When the talk turned to money, Ruslan Skopal reminded us of the harsh truth: “turnover is not margin”. In his presentation, he broke down profitability across 12 levels of margin, emphasizing that we must track everything from shipping subsidies to payment gateway fees.
He also provided several practical tips that an e-shop owner or manager should definitely implement immediately:
- Decoy Effect:
Adding a “decoy” to the price list to make the most expensive product look like a better value. - Cart Progress Bar:
Visually showing the customer exactly how much more they need to spend to get free shipping. - Cart Psychology:
Implementing fees for very small orders or introducing a voluntary “tip” for the packers.
Security was also a major theme, as risks grow with the arrival of AI agents. A piece of malicious text in a review (so-called Prompt Injection) is enough for an agent to perform unauthorized actions or reveal sensitive data without the owner’s knowledge. Therefore, it is crucial to stick to the Human-in-the-loop principle, where critical changes are always confirmed by a human.
There was truly a lot to take in, and every presentation opened our eyes to a different area – from technical protocols to shopping cart psychology. We walked away with a heap of new information and “aha moments” that clearly showed the world of online business is changing faster than you might think.
However, this entire flood of news led to one common denominator: while technologies like AI can brutally increase revenue, we must handle them carefully and responsibly.
We left with the knowledge that being part of E-commerce Slovakia gives us a massive “first-mover” advantage. We are proud that our e-shop belongs to this community, and you can find our official member profile HERE.
